Based on the requirements set out by a previous planning consent, ADG developed this project to comply with the high requirements of EcoHomes, Building for Life and the design standards of the Housing Corporation.

The building was also designed to achieve a high level of air tightness. In conjunction with increased levels of insulation in the building envelope, the energy input had been reduced drastically.

Further improvements to the energy consumption have been achieved through the installation of assisted ventilation systems to each unit. Low energy lighting was fitted throughout the building and high quality low maintenance materials where specified for the external envelope.

To create a building accessible and integral to all users, a lift to access all levels and barrier free circulation guided in the design process.

To enhance the quality of the external environment car parking has been screened off and all available spaces have been landscaped and new trees planted.

The site is located within an established residential area and designed to restore the street scene and urban environment, which formerly consisted of an empty site with the remains of a demolished church building. Close by is access to public transport, local shops and a public park.
