Architectural Trips In 2005, ADG visited Glasgow to see first hand what they had to offer architecturally. Glasgow is a beautiful city for new architecture especially the science exhibition centre by Foster. There are many historic buildings in Glasgow City Centre, illustrating the city's rich architectural heritage from the Victorian era and earlier. If you walk along Gordon Street from Central Station's front entrance you will soon come to Mitchell Street, which contains the former Glasgow Herald building designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and completed in 1895. ADG visited Edinburgh in 2006 and found a great mix of old and modern architecture merged successfully together. Edinburgh, Scotland's capital city, has many interesting buildings all within walking distance of Princes Street and the famous Royal Mile. Whilst on the trip, we were able to visit several exciting buildings such as the Scotish Parliment, Scotish National Gallery of Modern Art and Edinburgh Castle, whilst being able to take in all the local buildings. In 2007 ADG decided to travel slightly further afield and a group of 26 staff and partners visited Barcelona. An exciting itinerary of buildings, places and sights to visit was planned beforehand and over a whirlwind three days we saw a great deal. Buildings visited included the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion, Gaudi's Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell, Miralles and Tagliabue's new Natural Gas HQ and Jean Nouvel's Torre Agbar. Of course it wasn't all work and we did manage to take some time to relax and enjoy some tapas and sangria too! |
