Follaton Oak The Follaton Oak project evolved from working with the landowners and local authority to find a housing solution that assisted in answering some of the much needed affordable housing requirements for Totnes. The site is outside the development boundary but was negotiated as an acceptable development site with a minimum of 50% affordable housing. Covering over 3 hectares of land, much is given over as communal space and landscaped areas providing an integrated landscape approach to a contemporary housing scheme. The site links existing routes and adjacent spaces to weave the development into the existing community with a strong emphasis on sustainability through the layout, community spaces, orientation and design principals. The outline application involved a large number of comprehensive reports and investigations, community consultation, extensive local authority officer involvement and presentations to the local design panel and Town Council. As the site was outside of the local development plan and development boundaries the planning negotiation process was critical to the success of the application. |
