Worle Surgery The Architects Design Group was involved with the development of a temporary surgery, as a first phase, on the site and has subsequently carried out a full site appraisal for the permanent Medical Centre including; potential phasing options, site constraints and opportunities, building orientation and massing, and access. Throughout the design process ADG has liaised with the client, GPI Group, and have been involved in consultation with the PCT. This consultation has helped to inform and agree building zoning, room and use adjacencies, and floorplan layouts together with building massing and appearance. The key driver for the design concept was the need to accommodate a GP practice to serve 6000 patients. It is also a requirement that the practice becomes a training practice within eighteen months of opening. This sets the need for 5 GP consulting rooms, supported by 2 nurse and 1 Health Care assistant treatment rooms. Services such as Podiatry, Musculo – Skeletal work, and Physiotherapy could also be provided from this new building. A multi function training and meeting facility has also been included. This large room can be subdivided to serve a multitude of functions including; library and study room for GPs to work quietly when not in clinic, antenatal classes and full lecture style training. The building has been designed to incorporate a Pharmacy as an additional component at the front of the building. This is a stand-alone option, which could, together with additional first floor accommodation, provide a future expansion option for the practice. The building, in its extended phase including the pharmacy, has been developed as a cluster of three forms. The entrance/reception “core” rises slightly higher than the southern treatment wing and western pharmacy wing to express this cluster arrangement. The proposed materials and feature colours reflect the brick and stone colours within the existing residential development adjacent to the site. |
