University of Exeter Old Library

ADG Interiors undertook a commission from the client to provide a concept design for a key space at the University’s Streatham Campus. Following on from a successful partnership with the Estates Department of the Senate Chamber refurbishment, the Old Library was also from the early 1960s. The main lobby space had some notable architectural features, such as a large lantern skylight that provides a flood of natural day light penetrating through two floors to a museum space below.

Our design brief was to refresh the lobby space and associated offices, corridors, seminar rooms, WCs and other facilities. The approach was to;

  • Renew and lighten the wall finishes
  • Provide new ceiling and lighting treatments
  • Provide new floor coverings
  • Provide new furniture finishes and blinds
  • Replace doors and door furniture, cubicles and sanitary ware

The other key elements of the brief were to work within a fixed budget and to deliver the scheme within the summer holiday period all of which were achieved.

"Juliet's own design and influence on the rest of the design has turned what could have been a mundane scheme into a striking scheme."
