Bob McDonald Architects Design Group Plymouth

Bob McDonald, Associate Architect

Bob McDonald joined the Architects Design Group in 1999, having previously worked in Scotland and Northern Ireland for practices including Building Design Partnership (BDP) as well as NI award winning architects Robinson & McIlwaine and Hall Black Douglas.

Throughout his career with ADG, Bob has worked closely with the Regeneration Developers in realising The Vision for Plymouth, specifically having worked on Azure which was the first major regeneration scheme on Plymouth Hoe.

He has also assisted local and national developers in the creation of mixed use and regeneration schemes in the South West of England, including Oceanique and Land Securities in the residential element of Princesshay, Exeter. In the run up to the 2012 Olympics, Bob assisted in the creation of the new National Team Building at Portland for the Royal Yachting Association and has also been project lead for the final Peninsula School of Dentistry in Plymouth.

Whilst developing skills in major and complex design schemes, Bob has retained a working knowledge and interest in smaller scale, high quality RP and community related projects.

Dale Beeson Architects Design Group Plymouth

Dale Beeson, Associate Architect

16 years experience employed working within a diverse range of projects at all stages of development. Sectors include many high profile, mixed use projects, healthcare, education, housing, commercial and retail, with budgets ranging from 200,000 to 40 million. Able to exploit an artistic background to produce high quality drawings and specialist presentation work for client and in-house use

Dale has developed a specific skill in 3D visualisations, quickly conveying accurate and detailed external, internal space, sectional and animated 3D images using SketchUP. Also able to draw on three years of engineering training to quickly develop viable design solutions and feasibility studies. Special areas of interest and study include sustainable design, especially passive solar design and earth sheltered construction.

Patrick Deigan Architects Design Group Plymouth

Patrick Deigan, Associate Architect

Patrick joined ADG as a Senior Architect in 2005. Born in Cornwall, Patrick moved to London to study architecture and worked there for several years before returning to the South West.

Patrick has acquired wide-ranging experience working on residential projects together with leisure, transport, healthcare and office projects. In addition he has developed particular skills in mixed use and regeneration schemes whether they are single buildings or larger developments involving collaboration with multiple stakeholders.

Since joining ADG Patrick has been involved in the day-to-day management of a team to develop and deliver a range of projects. He has also developed his conceptual design skills and has liaised closely with clients on several projects to produce design briefs, site appraisals and sketch schemes. Patrick has developed skills in conveying these design ideas to clients, key stakeholders, planners and external design panels and has been involved with public consultation events.

As well as working at the concept design level, Patrick has extensive experience managing the detail design and construction of projects including timber frame MMC and BREEAM rated designs and has been involved with leading design teams to ensure the successful completion of projects. Patrick also leads ADG in sustainable design and is a member of ADG's Environmental Management Group, which monitors projects within the practice to ensure that sustainable design techniques are considered and promoted.

Jez Lavers Architects Design Group Plymouth

Jez Lavers, Senior Architect

Jez joined The Architects Design Group in 2002 having gained experience in other offices in the UK and abroad. Initially Jez worked as a Project Architect on major healthcare and residential schemes before being promoted to Senior Architect level in 2005. Jez now co-ordinates multi-disciplinary teams and leads the design on a number of public and private sector projects. Jez has detailed experience across the full range of RIBA Workstages, having worked on Traditional, Design & Build and Partnering contracts.

Jez has gained extensive experience in the education field over the last 10 plus years. This has included working on PFI schemes at Primary, Secondary and Further Education levels. Recently Jez has worked as Design Leader and Technical Advisor on primary school developments. This has included co-ordination of stakeholder workshops, running project steering groups, development of educational visions, brief development, public consultation, and development of detailed accommodation schedules in line with Building Bulletin BB99.

Jez is experienced in delivering sustainable building solutions. This has included achieving BREEAM standards, planning schemes for on-site renewable energy generation and co-ordination of building form and fabric to meet low carbon targets. Jez has a detailed knowledge of sustainable design solutions and the relevant standards and codes.

Jon Inman Architects Design Group Plymouth

Jon Inman, Senior Architect

Jonathan Inman has recently joined the Architects Design Group as a Senior Architect. Having originally moved to Plymouth to study Architecture, he has continued to develop his career in the area, having previously worked for well-established award winning Plymouth based practices such as Lacey Hickie Caley and Burke Richards. Jonathan has developed a wide range of experience, working on projects within a diverse number of sectors including Education, Healthcare and Health Training facilities, Housing, Leisure, Warehouse Retail, MOD work and Factory Units. In particular, he has gained considerable experience in both Further Education and Healthcare projects, both as new build and refurbishment schemes. Through this, he has gained considerable knowledge in the refurbishment of large multi- level buildings including the extensive re-modelling of internal layouts to create educational facilities that serve the requirements of the modern educational establishment. In more recent years, Jonathan has further developed his skills and knowledge base and in 2007, he was employed as a Project Director by Devereux Architects, a London based award winning architectural practice specialising in the provision of Healthcare facilities. In this capacity, he was given responsibility for the setting up and management of a new Plymouth based office for the practice, gaining considerable experience in both the Strategic and Operational management of an Architectural office to deliver Healthcare projects in the South West. He has considerable experience in the design and technical management of projects, including the day-to-day management of the 'project team' both internally and globally as required on large public and private sector projects, including those with multiple stakeholders.

Peter Curno Architects Design Group Plymouth

Peter Curno, Technical Manager

Pete is one of the longest serving employees at ADG having joined the practice soon after it's inception in 1988. Born and educated in Plymouth, Pete completed his training after leaving school in 1980 and started his career in architecture for another Plymouth practice, where he progressed from office junior to fully qualified Technician.

Soon after joining ADG, Pete participated in the introduction of computer aided design systems into the practice and quickly took on the added role of IT manager overseeing the implementation of an Apple Mac based CAD system and a network infrastructure. The practice became one of the first to fully explore the possibilities that 3D design software could offer architects and quickly gained a reputation for producing high quality presentations, which continues to this day.

As the practice expanded, the management of IT was passed to a full time IT manager so that Pete could develop his project management skills on health projects and housing, gaining sufficient experience to be accepted as a full member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists.

More recently, Pete has worked more in the 'design and build' arena, working very closely with contractor led developments on large scale residential and industrial projects, tailoring the technical packages to meet tight deadlines and managing small teams of technicians.

Darren Jenner Architects Design Group Plymouth

Darren Jenner, Architect

Darren joined ADG in 2001 as a Part 2 Qualified Architectural Assistant and developed his experience with the practice to become a fully qualified architect in 2003. Darren moved to Plymouth from Sussex to study Architecture before working at small practices based in Dartmouth and Saltash respectively that both specialised in residential projects.

During his time with ADG Darren has developed a full range of experience and has successfully delivered projects across residential, healthcare, education and conservation sectors for both public and private clients alike. This experience has included new build and re-use of existing buildings within both urban and rural contexts.

Darren has developed his conceptual design skills and has liaised closely with clients to produce site appraisals and sketch schemes. He has strengthened skills in conveying design ideas to clients, stakeholders, end users and local planning authority officers, he has also been involved in several public consultation events across a range of projects.

Darren has undertaken the role of Architect across all RIBA work stages and has developed his experience within detail design and construction phases of projects, coordinating design teams to ensure the successful delivery of projects. He has had experience of working with Traditional, Design & Build and Partnering Contracts during his time with the practice.

Dan Stewart Architects Design Group Plymouth

Dan Stewart, Architect

Dan graduated from his Diploma in Architecture at Plymouth University in 2007 and moved to London to work in large commercial practice. There he gained experience in large scale residential, commercial, and mixed use development projects.

In 2010 he moved back to Devon with his wife for a better quality of life and to try to gain more practical experience in construction. He previously worked at renowned smaller local practices on projects such as the award winning 'Stairway to Devon' at Royal William Yard, Plymouth. For the last few years, he has gained in-depth experience designing, detailing and project managing luxury one-off private houses and developments throughout Devon and Cornwall.

Dan qualified as an Architect at Bath University in 2013. He has a Passion for the conservation, care and re-use of historic buildings, excellent design skills and has a long-standing interest in the development and application of sustainable technologies and materials. He is committed to achieving high quality design which remaining grounded within a realistic design ethos and project budget.

Dan is working to develop integration of emerging digital technologies into our design and project workflow. This will enhance productivity, and promote communication with Clients, Contractors and consulting Professionals, providing them with a greater understanding of the project through evolving methods of 3D visualisation.

Dan has just finished a 5 year extensive renovation of his house in Plymouth, with hands on experience having undertaken the majority of the work himself completely gutting the interior, re-plumbing, re-wiring and fully insulating the property.

Steve Walrond Architects Design Group Plymouth

Over 7 years experience employed working within a diverse range of projects at all stages of development Steve has proven he is able to adapt his skills to suit.

Steve is able to exploit an artistic background to produce high quality drawings and specialist presentation work for client and in-house use. Steve has developed specific skills in 3D visualisations, quickly conveying accurate and detailed external, internal space, sectional and animated 3D images using both SketchUP and Revit.

Part of Steve's training included conservation within the built environment. Special areas of interest and study include sustainable design, conservation of historic buildings and innovative domestic architecture.

Chris Band Architects Design Group Plymouth

Chris Band, Associate Graphic Designer

Chris is an energetic, design orientated person with a flair for graphics. Whilst working within the design industry, he has learnt a huge amount about the full design process from the initial contact through the quoting, design, finishing and invoicing process, and has a good understanding of project timing and project management.

For the past 10 years of his design career he has been working within design environments, working as an in-house graphic designer for the Architects Design Group, designing in-house brochures, flyers and creating architectural brochures and colour-ups for clients.

Chris then moved to Adgective Graphic Design where he heads up the graphics department alongside two other designers. Adgective creates a vast array of graphics from branding exercises through to web and brochure designs. As Adgective is part of the Architects Design Group, they specialise in property and residential specification and marketing brochures for many of ADG's clients.

Chris has excellent communication skills and can work smoothly and proficiently within a team, and has experience in all areas of the business.
