Mayflower House Our client bought this historic building in the heart of Mannamead, Plymouth and contacted ADG to provide him with a modern care home, exceeding the standards for elderly care. The brief was to convert the existing building and provide additional rooms for up to 35 residents suffering from dementia. Additional on-site facilities have been included in the design, a historic cinema and pub, a hairdresser and reading lounges to name just a few. The challenge was to create a design that integrates the new extensions in the setting of the main building and is also in-keeping with the surrounding neighborhood of this conservation area. Mayflower House site is accessed via a grand driveway bending around a well sized garden with characteristic mature trees. The new Care Home is entered via a lobby leading to an historic timber staircase with gallery which is the central orientation point, from here all communal facilities can be reached at short distances. |
