DURLEY HOUSE BECOMES STUDIO 5-11

Following a six-month refurbishment designed by ADG, the five-storey former social security building has been transformed from a tired and run-down 1970s office block into Studio 5-11, a newly refurbished high quality business centre with a total lettable area providing 3232m2 of offices, A1 and A2 space, and the whole building is served by a private car park offering 44 spaces.

The external envelope of the building has been completely refurbished with a highly insulated cladding system and new double glazed thermally broken PPC aluminium windows. The ground floor entrance façade has been clad in limestone faced panels to ensure a high quality finish where it is most visible.

Optional office planning offers controllable naturally ventilated space with provision for supplementary mechanical ventilation to the open and cellular office spaces. The insulation system to external walls will improve the “U” value from 1.0wm2K to 0.22wm2K, the roof has been improved from 1.2wm2K to 0.20wm2K and an array of 90 photovoltaic panels will significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the building.

ADG EDUCATION

HIGH VIEW SCHOOL

ADG were delighted with their success as High View was judged Best Sustainable Development and was Highly Commended in the Best New Building category at this years Abercrombie Awards.

Proud headteacher, Kim Dorian Kemp expressed her gratitude that the children were able to have such an impact on the school's design. She said: "It was wonderful for High View's 'design pod' of children to stand shoulder to shoulder with ADG and get to hold the award. It has been an empowering experience for our children and I do believe we have some budding architects in our midst."

Initiators of the redevelopment project, Plymouth City Council were also delighted by the recognition of the school. Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, Cllr Sam Leaves, said: "We set out to put schools and children at the heart of the community and its great to see this school winning accolades as the children were so involved in the design process."
